As the weather starts to get cooler, I love nothing more than getting into the kitchen and whipping up this apple and pear crumble. There is nothing quite like the smell of baked crumble as it comes out of the oven to make you feel all toasty and warm inside!
This gluten free crumble is so easy to make and is packed full of healthy nutritious ingredients. Once your apples and pears are peeled and sliced, the rest can be thrown together in less than 5 minutes. You may also like to substitute with alternative fruits throughout the year when they are in season.
I love to serve this crumble in the Leon household and it’s such a crowd pleaser when guests come over also. Any left overs (a rare occurrence!) may be served cold the next day. Add a dollop of natural yoghurt for a healthy and delicious breakfast treat.
This is one of the easiest crumbles you will ever make and I’m sure it will become a family favourite in your house as it is in ours.
Healthy Apple and Pear Crumble:
Apple and Pear Filling:
3 apples
3 pears
2 Tbsp coconut sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Crumble:
1 cup almond meal
1 cup sliced almonds
1 cup coconut flakes
1 Tbsp coconut sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup extra virgin coconut oil
Directions:
Pre heat oven to 160C.
Grease a baking dish with coconut oil.
Peel and de-core the apples and pears. Thinly slice each piece of fruit and layer your slices in a circular pattern in your baking dish. Start with a layer of apples then a layer of pears, alternating until you have used up all your slices.
In a small bowl mix together the coconut sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the top of the sliced apples and pears.
In a bowl combine the almond meal, sliced almonds, coconut flakes, coconut sugar and cinnamon. Add the coconut oil and using your hands, work the coconut oil through the dry mixture to create a crumble consistency.
Evenly spread the crumble mixture over the top of the sliced apples and pears.
Place your dish in the oven and bake for 40 minutes until the crumble is golden and the apples and pears are cooked to desired softness. (If the crumble is getting too brown, place a layer of tin foil over the top and continue baking).
Once removed from the oven, allow to cool slightly before spooning out. Serve with organic fresh cream, natural yoghurt or vanilla ice cream.
